Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I fish with POF?

As a small, family-run outfitter, we believe that we can provide a first class experience, guaranteeing not only good fishing, but also top notch service and organization. We are not a big commercial company, and we pride ourselves on creating unique trips for all of our guests. We wont let you down.

Which trip is right for me? Do I need a lot of experience?

We craft your itinerary based on what you like most, your fishing skills, and your availability. This area has many fantastic options; it can be overwhelming! But we are experts at choosing rivers and lodges depending on your interests and abilities. You do not need any prior fishing experience, as we will be happy to teach you! There are also plenty of non-fishing options for those not as interesting in full days on the water. We are happy to answer all your questions - let us help you.

When is best to visit?

We recommend staying for a full week of fishing since you have come from so far, but we can be flexible and make the trip shorter or longer given your availability. The fishing season is November - May. All of the rivers are at their best during different parts of the season, so depending on your availability, we will help you pick the lodges and rivers that suit your needs. Given our years of fishing in the area, we will be able to advise you confidently.

What gear should i bring?

We are happy to provide rods, reels, boots, waders, flies, tippet, etc. for our guests. Just let us know your sizing ahead of time so we can acommodate. If you prefer to bring your own gear, we recommend bringing a 6 weight rod for bigger flies and windy days, plus a 5 weight rod for dry fly fishing and nymphing. Floating lines are best, but an additional sinking tip for the 6 weight could see some action in the early season as well. Prior to your trip, we will send you a list of flies we normally use in case you want to have a full box with you all the time.

The weather here is very similar to that of Montana or Colorado; warm during the day, and often cool at night. To be safe, we always recommend coming prepared with extra layers for inclement weather and wind.

Wifi? laundry? cash? etc

We offer laundry service for a small fee at Puente Negro. In most cases your clothing will be ready within 24hrs or less. Our partner lodges all offer similar services.

There is WiFi available at our lodge, as well as at our partner lodges. Cell coverage, however, is not reliable everywhere.

Credit cards can be used in most places for personal shopping, but we recommend having cash on hand for tips for guides and lodge staff. Clean, crisp bills in denominations of 50 and 100 are most widely accepted.

Argentina uses 220 volt electricity. We have extra converters on hand should you forget yours.
