PATAgonia on the fly

Premium fly fishing outfitter in Patagonia, Argentina

PATAGONIA ON THE FLY is excited to share with you some of the best rivers to fly fish around northern Patagonia. Our lodge, Puente Negro, serves as home base, located in San Martín de los Andes, Argentina. In addition to our home river, the Chimehuin, we offer you excursions to eight distinct rivers, oftentimes using our trusted partner lodges to minimize your driving time, and maximize your access to private waters and wild trout. We are a small, family-run outfitter, so your trip will be organized depending on your needs and the type of fishing you are looking to do. Professionalism and flexibility are what we offer when we plan these unique adventures. You will be fishing with friendly and professional guides who are fluent english speakers, locals from the area, and who have been honing their craft for over 10 years. Our highly experienced guides will soon become your close friends. Beyond the fishing, explore Argentina by staying in some of the finest and most authentic estancias, feasting on local food and wines, and taking in the exceptional views around every bend with Patagonia On The Fly. We look forward to sharing this special place with you!

Puente Negro, Casa de Campo

Puente Negro Casa de Campo is the Patagonia On The Fly home base.
A historic and beautiful spot located right on the Chimehuin River with a spacious yard and asado area, it has capacity for eight guests; four comfortable rooms - each with their own bathroom. Guests will enjoy the warm and inviting living room, and the outdoor patio and extensive garden to explore. The views and surrounding wildlife provide an authentic glimpse of Patagonia, while the coziness of the lodge will make you feel right at home. Its location, a mere ten minutes from the airport, makes it a great launching point to fish not only the incredible Chimehuin, but also the nearby Collon Cura, Alumine and Malleo Rivers, as well as surrounding lakes. An afternoon trip to the town of San Martin de Los Andes, only twenty minutes away, is always a fun option as well!
WE CAN’T WAIT TO WELCOME YOU HERE!

The Chimehuin River is our home base. Our bread and butter. You will never tire of fishing its channels by foot or by boat. Loaded with brown trout and rainbow trout, the Chimehuin fishes well all season long.

The Limay River is a tail-water of the Pichi Picun Leufu Dam. It’s a large river, with a healthy insect population, and many sizable trout. This river is for serious fishermen who know that the sport isn’t just a numbers game, but are willing to put in the effort for a trophy!

The Collon Cura is a larger river that fishes well all season. We mostly float this stream, though there are opportunities to wade certain sections. The lower Collón Curá is particularly excellent to fish during the small minnow run, where you can target trophy rainbow trout.

The Aluminé River runs for more than 80 miles before connecting with the Catan Lil River to form the Collón Cura River. This body of water is good for streamer fishing early in the season, and well known for its productive willow worm hatch later in the year.

The Traful River is a clear and pristine stream for experienced anglers who like to wade fish. It’s a technical river that has many trophy brown and rainbow trout hiding amongst an exceptionally beautiful landscape.

The Malleo River is renowned for its incredible dry fly fishing. This freestone stream goes from fast to slow moving, and offers easy wading conditions. You’ll spot the iconic Lanín volcano around every other curve of this scenic river.

The Filo Hua Hum River is one of the shortest in the area, running for only 10 miles between two lakes within the Estancia Tres Lagos. This is a technical stream where we primarily sight fish to large brown trout. This river is best for experienced anglers, and is accompanied by some of the most spectacular views in Patagonia.

The Caleufu River is best fished on an overnight camping program early in the season. There are more browns than rainbows in this stream, and streamers can be very productive. It is located in one of the most beautiful valleys in the region where you will pass through a rocky, verdant canyon that gives way to the arid desert-like steppe.

There are so many excellent waters to fish and activities to do while in northern Patagonia. Each river has its idiosyncrasies and benefits. We pride ourselves on working with you to build an itinerary that best meets your expectations and abilities, given our knowledge of the area. We will tailor your trip basing on your ideal accommodations, fishing level (from beginner to pro!), and whatever other activities you may be interested in exploring. We know it can be a bit overwhelming to start the planning process, so below you’ll find a few sample itineraries to give you an idea of what your time with us could look like!
